CTEC Building Inspection
The James Cook University Cairns Tropical Enterprise Centre (CTEC) is a newly completed 3,500m², four-storey teaching and research facility and the first mass timber commercial building constructed outside south-east Queensland. Targeting a 5 Star Green Star rating, its timber structure delivers a 60% reduction in embodied carbon compared with a conventional equivalent. CTEC provides an excellent case study in moisture management for tropical construction, with its timber structure requiring careful moisture control and ongoing performance monitoring. Led by AIRAH members and project engineers, this site inspection will explore the building’s HVAC design, moisture management strategy, and lessons learned from delivering a project in a hot-humid climate.
